Easier roster management and hands-off updates

Bridge gained roster search, a safer way to make terminal admins, admin roles from TimeKeeper, a password sign-in option and automatic updates on Windows.

Managing who is on the terminal

Most of September's 11 commits were about the roster, the list of people stored on each ZKTeco terminal. The Users page now has a search box, and each person's device user ID is shown next to their card number, which makes it easier to match someone on the terminal with their record.

Making someone a terminal admin now asks for a 4-digit PIN, so the new admin can open the terminal's own settings menu. Admin roles set in TimeKeeper now sync through to the terminals, so the terminal matches what the office has already decided. We also tried giving new users device IDs in name order, then took that change back after two weeks.

Sign-in and updates

Until now Bridge's admin page could only be opened with a code from an authenticator app. Administrators can now choose a username and password instead, or set up both and use either.

On Windows, Bridge now checks for new versions shortly after it starts and every hour after that. When it finds one, it downloads it, checks that the update is genuine, installs it and reopens itself, even if nobody has the admin page open. This can be turned off under Settings. Linux installs can turn on the same checks but still need a restart to finish.

Smaller fixes

Syncing employees and fingerprints to the terminals now shows live progress. When every punch in a batch was rejected, Bridge used to show this as a lost connection with a block of raw technical text. It now records the result for each punch instead. We also made the Windows welcome window quicker to respond.
