A fourth pay frequency
Until now, Mintage handled monthly, fortnightly and weekly payrolls. Some employers pay twice a month on fixed dates, which is not the same as every two weeks. In September we added bi-monthly as a full pay frequency.
That touched almost every part of the product. Bi-monthly has its own pages and navigation entry, its own colour in the employee table, its own options when assigning someone to payroll, and its own entries in the period selector. PAYE and NIS screens gained date ranges, insurance screens and reports learned the new frequency, and GRA Form 7B is available for bi-monthly payrolls. Each period also has a salary date.
New tools
GRA Form 7B can now be produced for a single employee, which helps when only one person's form is needed. A NIS merge tool joined the PAYE merger tool added earlier in the year. The team members table now shows each person's date of employment, an in-app help desk widget was added, and we laid groundwork for exchange rates.
Under the hood
The backend moved to Laravel 11, along with a round of package updates. We also added our first automated tests for the 2024 PAYE calculation and for the parser that reads work durations. Tests like these give us confidence that a change in one place does not quietly alter someone's tax. September came in at 163 commits.
