Mintage Connect's first build: payslips, documents, time off

We started the Mintage Connect employee app from scratch, with payslips, tax certificates, documents, time off requests and a profile, on Android first and then iOS.

A new app for employees

Mintage Connect is the app employees carry with them: their side of the systems their employer already runs. This month we started it from an empty project and, by the end of the month, had the core screens working on Android and a first iOS build set up.

The first priority was pay. Employees can browse their payslips by year, download them as PDFs and see an animated chart of where their pay went. The chart now copes with negative amounts, and the line once labelled "PAYE Refund" became "PAYE Adjustment", which better describes what it shows. The annual Form 7B tax certificate can be opened and shared, and if one is not available yet, the app says so rather than failing silently.

Documents, time off and profile

A documents section lets employees upload, view and delete their own files, with a detail view for each one. We also built a first time off request page and a profile screen that shows address details, with profile text that can be selected and copied.

Late in the month we changed how the app connects so that one install can work with companies using Mintage Payroll, the HR side of the platform, or both together. Employees who belong to more than one company pick which one to use, and someone with no company yet sees a clear page explaining that.

Getting ready for review

Much of the rest of the month went on finish and care. We added an About dialog and a terms of service link, a password sign-in path so app store reviewers can test the app, and a brand-coloured launch screen. On Android, content no longer hides behind the navigation bar, and forms can be submitted from the keyboard. We removed a clipboard listener to avoid any privacy concerns, cached the employee's name so the home screen loads faster, and switched PDF viewing on iOS to a more reliable approach.
