Periodic adjustments: set it once, apply each period

A new module lets payroll staff set up recurring allowances and deductions per employee and apply them to a chosen pay period in one step.

Recurring changes without retyping

Many payroll changes repeat: an allowance every period, or a deduction for a set number of months. Until now, someone had to key them in again each time. In April we finished the periodic adjustments module. Payroll staff can record an adjustment against an employee once, choose whether it is an allowance, a deduction or a non-taxable item, and then apply all pending adjustments to a selected pay period from one dialog.

The adjustments table can be sorted, edited by clicking a value, and marked with a coloured dot by type. Most of the month's frontend work went into making this reliable: moving it onto a proper store and API, stopping duplicate submissions, and making sure edits find the right record.

Room to grow

We raised the limit on custom payroll fields from 20 to 40 and added a command to create the extra fields on existing installations. The payroll menu can now be split by pay type, with "Amount" renamed to "Fixed Salary" so it is easier to understand. Deduction lists now hide the built-in PAYE and NIS entries, so they cannot be picked by mistake.

We added print-friendly reports, new import options for salary data from outside systems, and a command that generates the month, bimonth, fortnight and week maps that tie pay periods to calendar months. Payroll closing also gained new options in the company's customisation settings. There were 305 commits this month.
