A fresh start for the interface
March is when the second half of the Mintage Payroll story begins. On 12 March we started a new frontend, written in Vue, to replace the older screens over time. The payroll engine on the backend stays the same; the new app is a cleaner way to use it.
The first pages to arrive were settings, employees and tools. Within two weeks the app had company settings, departments, banks, roles, users and insurance set-up, an employee list with detail pages, a payroll assignment screen and a salary calculator. Past years are disabled when assigning someone to a payroll, which avoids a common mistake.
Laying the foundations
Towards the end of the month we moved almost every page onto shared data stores. It is not glamorous work, but it means that when you change a department or a bank in one place, every other screen sees it straight away. We also added a consistent field label component, made tabs open directly from a link, and added pages for platform administrators.
Cleaner data on the backend
The backend received stricter checks on phone numbers and dates of birth, both of which matter for payslip delivery and NIS. Employee imports gained new templates for bank account details and health insurance, the loan manager was updated, and we refreshed the NIS electronic schedule template for 2024. A new report for an insurance provider was also added. All told, March saw 218 commits across both codebases.
