Something new: biometrics
Payroll depends on knowing who worked and when. In September we began a new biometric module, built step by step over the month. It lets an employee's face be registered from several positions, recognised later, and removed when needed. Each registered face is tied to an employee record, so attendance can be matched to the right person. A second part handles attendance devices, so each device can be registered and managed from the application, kept separate from employee data.
We also extended employee accounts so a biometric user can exist alongside the normal sign-in, and updated the sign-out flow to match.
To be clear, this was groundwork rather than a launch. The module had its basic data model, recognition steps and an API, but there was more to do before it would be part of anyone's daily pay process.
Payroll fixes and branding
On the payroll side, payslips and exports can now show a configurable product or distributor name instead of a fixed one, which matters when the same payroll engine is offered under different names. Payroll officers do not need to do anything; the name simply follows the installation's settings. We fixed how inactive employees were handled in the employee list, and updated the employee and remuneration modules to match.
The remaining commits of the month's 11 were updates to the development setup and build configuration.
