Forms, not just spreadsheets
In January we added files for online filing. Not every submission goes that way, though, so in July we added exports for the PAYE and NIS offline forms as well. They are built from a monthly payroll and come out ready to check and submit, instead of someone retyping figures from a payroll report into a separate template. Each comes as a form-style spreadsheet together with an accompanying file built from the same figures.
To make the forms complete, we pass the company name and address through to the exports, with support for a two-line address. The same details now appear on payslips.
Fortnightly payroll catches up
Fortnightly payroll got its own PAYE export and a PAYE manual worksheet, bringing it closer to what monthly users already had. We also added options so the payroll screens open on a chosen default month, or a chosen starting fortnight, which saves a few clicks every pay day.
A fix worth mentioning
Some employees are not subject to PAYE, and payroll lets you switch it off for them. We found that the year-to-date auto-adjust from April could still run for those employees. Now it only runs when PAYE is enabled, and a disabled PAYE line is always zero.
It was a month of 31 commits, mostly in exports, and a good example of how much of payroll software is about the paperwork that comes after the calculation.
