A first version of Workforce gets started

We set up the first web app for our HR product and added its first time-off pages. A quiet start to a long project.

Where Workforce began

This was the month the first version of what is now Mintage Workforce was started. On 24 May the team set up a new web application for our HR product, built with the same tools we already used elsewhere in Mintage. The first commits were housekeeping: the right logo, updated dependencies and a clean starting point to build on.

It is worth saying plainly that this is not the Workforce people use today. This early front end was our first attempt at an HR product to sit beside Mintage Payroll. It was later rebuilt from the ground up, in 2026, with a new back end and a new web app. But several ideas that run through the current product, such as time-off policies, recruiting and an employee directory, first showed up here.

Time off comes first

The only feature work of the month was the start of the time-off tools: a page listing time-off policies and a page for each individual policy. Time off was the natural place to begin. It is one of the questions an HR team answers most often, and it touches payroll directly, because leave balances and unpaid leave affect what people are paid.

With five commits this was a short month. The goal was simply to have a working foundation in place, so the following weeks could go into real features. June is where that work shows.
