Back to work: QR pairing and face enrolment

After a long pause, the kiosk app returned with QR-code pairing to Mintage Workforce, a guided face enrolment flow and a new name: Pulse.

Picking the project back up

The last commits before this month were in early 2023. In March 2026 we opened the same Android project again and rebuilt it around Mintage Workforce. The first change was to how a tablet is set up. Instead of typing details into a registration screen, an administrator now scans QR codes shown in Workforce, and the kiosk configures itself on launch. The kiosk's access is renewed in the background, so a tablet left on a wall keeps working without anyone signing in again.

We also removed the separate admin console and moved the unregister option to the options screen, so there were fewer places to get lost.

Enrolling and recognising faces

Face enrolment was rebuilt as a guided flow: the app asks the person to look in a few directions and shows dots, a step counter and a checkmark as each photo is taken. Later in the month we reduced how far people are asked to turn, and then changed enrolment to five photos looking straight ahead, which is easier to follow at a busy entrance.

On the kiosk, recognition now asks for agreement across several captures before it accepts a match. Once it knows who someone is, it looks at their current state and records a clock-in or a clock-out, so nobody has to pick the right button first. Photos are resized and compressed before upload to keep things quick on slower connections, and clock times are stored in Guyana time.

A new name

The app took its current name this month. It was renamed to Mintage Biometrics, then to Pulse, and the main screens were redesigned with a cleaner, quieter look. A handful of fixes tidied up QR scanning and a stuck upload state.
