Payslips only the employee can open

Payslips hold personal pay details, and they often travel by email or WhatsApp. In September we finished a Payslip Protection page in the settings. A company can turn on password protection for payslip PDFs and choose how each employee's password is built. The default uses the employee's date of birth, and a format builder shows an example of the result. A separate administrator password lets the company open any payslip when it needs to.

The feature started as an export setting at the end of August. It became its own settings page this month, with explicit saving and a confirmation message. Password changes are debounced, so typing does not send a stream of updates.

Housekeeping with a purpose

The period maps screen was renamed Period Mapping. Pay period dates can now be edited there, with an option to carry a change forward to later periods. Departments can be merged, which helps when the same department was set up twice under different names. Loan repayments now have downloadable receipts named after the employee and period.

The net pay dialog gained switches to stop an entry going to bank transfer or to mark it for removal from the schedule, with matching icons and filters on the payroll grid. Payroll fields now have tooltips that show which formula was used. A temporary referral prompt was removed. We also spent time on our build and deployment tooling, on older activity logs, and on a framework upgrade that we tried and decided to postpone. There were 281 commits.
