The 2025 PAYE rules became the active default, non-taxable overtime was added to every pay frequency, and the 2025 NIS schedule template arrived.

Switching the default

The groundwork from January went live in February. 2025 became the active PAYE year in Mintage Payroll, and a lot of the month went into checking that every report, payslip and template gave the right figures under the new rules. The commit log shows the usual pattern of a tax change: many small fixes to reports and rounding, each checked against real payroll output.

The largest single change was non-taxable overtime. We added a processing step that separates the non-taxable part of overtime before PAYE is worked out, and made it run in the right order for monthly, bimonthly, fortnightly and weekly payrolls. The command that installs it removes any earlier copy first, so the step is never added twice.

NIS and reporting

On the NIS side, we added the 2025 electronic schedule template and updated the NIS reports to use it. Payroll data can now be imported by month, pension amounts that came out negative are handled correctly, and a blank TIN is now accepted. Bimonthly payroll got its own fixes and templates, since it behaves differently from the other frequencies.

Tools for the people running payroll

For the people who key in hours, we built a time conversion tool that turns minutes into decimal hours. We also started a drag-and-drop view for deciding which weeks belong to which month, which matters for weekly payrolls when a week crosses a month end. In the PAYE dialog, a collapsible child allowance claim panel now explains what the number-of-children field does. There were 268 commits this month.
