A quiet May: salary dates and payslip footnotes

A maintenance month with 36 commits: payslips can show the salary date and a custom footnote, and net pay can round up to the nearest hundred.

A maintenance month

May was the quietest month of the year, with 36 commits. Most of them kept the payroll modules in step with each other rather than adding anything large, and that is a normal part of looking after a product that people rely on, quietly, every single pay period.

There was some useful work behind those commits, though. Payroll rebuild and setup commands were changed so they can run cleanly from the console without a signed-in user, and loan updates were simplified to avoid repeated lookups.

Small payslip improvements

A few requests from day-to-day use made it in. Each pay period can now carry a salary date, the day staff were actually paid, and that date prints on the payslip if it is set. Employers can also add their own footnote to payslips, for example a reminder or a contact for payroll questions. The payslip text colour and font were adjusted so it reads better when printed.

On the calculation side, there is now an option to round net pay up to the nearest 100, which some employers prefer when paying in cash. None of this changes how PAYE or NIS are calculated; it simply makes the documents employees receive clearer and more useful. A payroll could also be copied forward with basic salary hours and days reset, so a new period starts clean.
