Ready for year end
December was short, as Decembers tend to be, but it delivered one piece that mattered for the season. We added a first export for GRA Form 2A, one of the forms employers file with GRA after the year closes. It pulls together figures the system already holds from each payroll, and builds on the year-to-date work finished in October.
Year-end forms are where small errors earlier in the year become visible, so this export also served as a check on everything before it. It was a first version, and the forms work continued well into the following years as we learned how employers actually prepare and file these returns.
Housekeeping
The rest of the month was maintenance. We updated Laravel to version 8.75 to stay current with fixes. Employee details now refresh automatically when the underlying data changes. The main case was age, since a birthday can change which statutory rules apply to an employee. The system also now remembers which pay frequency is currently selected.
Looking back on 2021, the year started with a general-purpose Laravel foundation and ended with a payroll system that handled monthly, weekly and fortnightly pay, PAYE and NIS exports, payslips, loans, year-to-date reporting and a first GRA year-end form. Much of what Mintage Payroll does today grew from decisions made in these twelve months, including several that were reversed along the way.
